Fee Structure and Alternative Fee Agreements
We do take an entrepreneurial approach to accepting engagements and to setting attorneys’ fees, so as to benefit our clients.
Attorneys traditionally work for an hourly rate fee that is based upon the experience level and area of practice of the attorney. That hourly rate is also influenced by the overhead and cost structure of the law firm. As our overhead is less than that of a larger firm, we can pass those savings on to the client.
Some cases, such as those involving complex commercial litigation, may be handled on a contingency fee basis, which means the firm will receive a percentage of the amount actually recovered. The percentage will vary depending on the facts of a particular case.
A task-oriented attorney fee (flat fee) allows increased budget certainty. For example, litigation demands can vary widely and can be unpredictable, but your litigation costs can still be accurately budgeted on a flat fee basis, where budget certainty is important.
We encourage exploration of both types of alternative fee arrangements, as well as hybrids involving all three fee types, because they often suit our clients’ particular budget needs and preferences, and reward us for achieving positive results for our clients in an efficient manner.
We at Schecter Law are proud that we have been recognized with the highest AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell. What makes this highest rating even more significant is that it is voted upon by our peers.
